Description

There's something nostalgic and comforting about a loaf of banana nut bread. Whether you're new to baking or a seasoned pro, this recipe is easy to follow and yields a loaf that's moist, flavorful, and filled with crunchy nuts. Perfect with a cup of coffee or tea, this bread is sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 3 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 1 tablespoon sour milk (or 1 tablespoon milk with a few drops of lemon juice)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cups chopped walnuts
Instructions
  1. Preheat and Prepare

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set it aside.

  2. Mix Wet Ingredients

In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the beaten eggs and mix well. Stir in the mashed bananas and sour milk until fully combined. Add the vanilla extract.

  3. Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined.

  4. Add the Nuts

Fold in the chopped walnuts, making sure they're evenly distributed throughout the batter.

  5. Pour and Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool and Serve

Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve once cooled.

Note
  • The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread will be. Bananas with plenty of brown spots are ideal.
  • If you don’t have sour milk, you can make it by adding 1 teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • While walnuts are traditional, you can use other nuts like pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts. You can also leave them out if you prefer nut-free bread.
