With a few easy-to-find ingredients and a bit of creativity, you can turn ordinary chocolate cupcakes into charming turkeys. This recipe will guide you through the steps to create these fun treats, making your cupcake even more interesting.

Ingredients
    For the cupcakes:
  • 1 box devil's food cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2-3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • For Decoration:
  • 24 Fudge Stripe cookies
  • 24 Oreo cookies
  • 144 pieces of candy corn (approximately 6 per cupcake)
  • 48 candy eyes
  • 24 red candies (e.g., Twizzlers Nibs or pieces of red fruit roll-up for the wattle)
  • 24 orange candies (e.g., candy corn or orange M&Ms for the beak)
  • Additional frosting or melted almond bark for "glue"
Instructions
    Prepare the Cupcakes:
  1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two 12-cup muffin tins with cupcake liners.

  2. Mix the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the devil's food cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, and sour cream. Mix until smooth and well combined.

  3. Fill the Cupcake Liners

Scoop the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about three-quarters full.

  4. Bake

Bake the cupcakes for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  5. Cool

Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  6. Make the Frosting:
  7. Beat the Butter

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.

  8. Add Ingredients

Gradually add the vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and milk, followed by the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.

  9. Frost the Cupcakes

Once the turkey cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them using a piping bag or a spatula.

  10. Decorate the Cupcakes:
  11. Prepare the "Feathers"

Separate the Fudge Stripe cookies and press 5-6 pieces of candy corn into the filling of each cookie to create the feathers.

  12. Prepare the Eyes and Beak

Split the Oreo cookies in half, keeping the cream-filled sides. Attach candy eyes to the cream-filled halves using a small dab of frosting or melted almond bark. For the beak, use an orange candy (e.g., candy corn or M&M) and attach it to the center of the cream-filled side.

  13. Prepare the Wattle

Cut small pieces of red candy (Twizzlers Nibs or fruit roll-up) to create the wattle.

  14. Assemble the Turkey Faces

Place the Oreo halves with the attached eyes and beak onto the frosted cupcakes. Add the wattle piece below the beak.

  15. Attach the Feathers

Insert the candy corn "feather" cookies into the back of each cupcake, pressing gently into the frosting to secure them.

  16. Final Touches

Make sure all the decorations are securely attached. Allow the decorated turkey cupcakes to sit for a few minutes so the frosting can set and hold the decorations in place.

Note
  • For smoother batter and frosting, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature
  • If you're transporting the cupcakes, insert a toothpick into the turkey feather cookies to help them stay upright.
  • If you can't find candy eyes, use mini chocolate chips or white chocolate chips with a dot of black icing for the pupils.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut candy pieces like Twizzlers or fruit roll-up for cleaner edges.
